A Good Life & Our Story

What is A Good Life's mission?

At A Good Life, we believe your home should nourish your spirit. We create handcrafted wooden furniture and decor that brings the calm, minimalist beauty of Nordic design into Indian homes. Every piece is made with love from reclaimed pine wood, combining ancient craftsmanship with modern sustainability. We're not just making furniture - we're helping you create spaces that support mindful, intentional living.

How did A Good Life start?

A Good Life began with a simple belief: that beautiful, sustainable furniture shouldn't be a luxury. Founded by Ashish Tagra, our journey started with rescuing discarded wood and transforming it into pieces that tell stories. We saw too much beautiful wood ending up in landfills while people struggled to find authentic, handcrafted furniture. Today, we're a small but passionate team dedicated to creating furniture that ages gracefully with you.

What makes your approach to furniture different?

We're artisans first, sellers second. Every piece is handcrafted using time-honored techniques, never mass-produced. We use 80% reclaimed wood that would otherwise be discarded, giving it new life in your home. Our Nordic-inspired designs focus on functionality and timeless beauty rather than trends. Most importantly, we believe furniture should have a soul - each piece carries the story of the wood it came from and the hands that shaped it.

Who are the artisans behind your products?

Our small production unit includes 2-3 skilled craftspeople who share our passion for sustainable woodworking. For larger orders, we partner with trusted artisan vendors who understand our quality standards and values. Every person who touches your furniture takes pride in creating something that will become part of your daily life and home story.

Our Materials & Sustainability

Why do you use reclaimed pine wood?

Every piece of reclaimed pine we use has lived a full life - it might have been shipping crates that traveled the world, construction scaffolding, or old furniture ready for a new chapter. We rescue this wood from landfills and industrial waste, giving it new purpose as beautiful furniture for your home. Reclaimed wood has unique character marks, grain patterns, and stories that make each piece truly one-of-a-kind. Plus, it's already seasoned and stable, making it perfect for furniture that lasts generations.

How much of your wood is actually recycled?

About 80% of our wood comes from reclaimed sources - industrial waste, discarded shipping materials, and wood that has reached the end of its original purpose but not its life. The remaining 20% is responsibly sourced new pine when we need specific dimensions or characteristics. We're constantly working to increase our reclaimed percentage while maintaining the quality our customers expect.

What's the environmental impact of choosing A Good Life?

When you choose A Good Life, you're actively participating in environmental healing. Each piece of furniture saves wood from landfills, reduces demand for new tree cutting, and supports circular economy principles. Our plastic-free, recyclable packaging means your purchase creates minimal waste. By choosing furniture designed to last decades rather than years, you're also reducing the cycle of disposal and replacement that harms our planet.

How do you source your materials responsibly?

We work directly with local suppliers who share our sustainability values. Our reclaimed wood comes from verified industrial waste streams - we know exactly where each piece originated. For new wood, we partner with suppliers who practice responsible forestry. We personally visit our sources to ensure they align with our environmental and ethical standards.

What happens to wood waste in your production?

Nothing goes to waste in our workshop. Wood shavings become natural mulch for local gardens, sawdust is used by local potters, and larger offcuts become smaller products or are returned to our reclaimed wood stock. We believe in honoring every piece of wood that enters our workshop by using it completely.

Product Quality & Craftsmanship

How long will my A Good Life piece last?

Our solid pine pieces are built to age gracefully with you. With proper care, expect your A Good Life furniture to last decades - we design them to become family heirlooms. The natural oils in pine wood help protect against wear, and small scratches or dents just add character to your piece's story. We believe in creating furniture that gets more beautiful with time, not less.

What's the difference between your solid wood and other furniture?

We use only solid pine wood - never MDF, particle board, or engineered wood. This means your furniture retains the natural grain, character, and strength of real wood. Solid wood can be refinished, repaired, and will actually improve with age. It breathes with your home's humidity changes and develops a beautiful patina over time. Mass-produced furniture using composite materials simply can't offer this longevity and character.

Why pine wood over other materials?

Pine is nature's perfect furniture wood - it's strong yet workable, naturally antimicrobial, and ages beautifully. Its light color and subtle grain complement any decor style, from minimalist to traditional. Pine is also sustainable and renewable, growing relatively quickly compared to hardwoods. Most importantly, pine has a warm, welcoming feel that makes your home feel more alive and connected to nature.

Do your products come with a warranty?

While handcrafted wood naturally varies, we stand behind our craftsmanship. We accept returns within 7 days for damaged or defective products (photo proof required within 48 hours of delivery). Beyond that, we're always here to help with care advice or minor repairs. Our goal is your complete satisfaction with a piece that brings joy to your home for years to come.

How do I know if a piece will fit my space?

Each product listing includes detailed dimensions and multiple photos showing the piece from different angles. We also share lifestyle photos on our Instagram (@agoodlife.in) showing our furniture in real Indian homes. If you're unsure, email us at hello@agoodlife.in with your space photos and measurements - we're happy to provide personalized advice to ensure your piece fits perfectly.

Care & Maintenance

How do I care for my wooden furniture daily?

Caring for your A Good Life piece is like tending a garden - simple daily habits keep it thriving. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth, following the wood grain. For deeper cleaning, use a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid placing hot items directly on the surface, and keep your piece away from direct sunlight or heating vents. Your furniture will develop a beautiful patina over time with this gentle care.

What should I do if my piece gets scratched or dented?

Minor scratches and dents are part of your furniture's story - they add character rather than detract from beauty. For deeper scratches, gently sand with fine-grit sandpaper following the grain, then apply a thin coat of natural wood oil. For dents, try placing a damp cloth over the area and applying gentle heat with an iron - the moisture often helps the wood fibers expand back into place.

Can wooden furniture handle India's humidity changes?

Solid wood naturally expands and contracts with humidity - this is normal and healthy. Pine is particularly stable, but you may notice slight seasonal changes. Keep your furniture away from direct moisture sources and maintain consistent indoor humidity when possible. These natural movements are signs your furniture is alive and breathing with your home's environment.

How often should I oil my furniture?

Treat your furniture to a light coat of natural wood oil every 6 months - think of it as nourishing the wood's soul. Use linseed oil, tung oil, or specialized furniture oil applied with a soft cloth, following the grain. Wipe away excess after 15 minutes. This feeding keeps the wood moisturized, enhances its natural beauty, and provides protection against daily wear.

What cleaning products should I avoid?

Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, furniture polishes with silicone, and anything containing ammonia or bleach. These can damage the wood's natural finish and character. Never soak wooden furniture or leave water standing on the surface. Stick to gentle, natural cleaning methods that honor the wood's organic nature.
